Rough n' Tumble 2011
Clouds were grey but, the threatened rain didn’t make an appearance as we made our way to Milton Lillebourne for this years 10 mile multi-terrain Rough ‘n’ Tumble. After a slippery slope up into the field car park and time to distribute Terminator leaflets we headed across to the village hall and to join the porta loos queue. It was very tantalising to watch the bacon butty stall being set up knowing that a few miles lay between you and that bacon…
Once everyone had arrived Steve Golding, the race organiser, went through a few points before the mass start of 600 runners on the road heading out of the village to our first hill. A steep diagonal path up the ridge sorted us out and warmed us up despite the blustery winds on the top. Surprisingly dry the course took us up, over and down the Pewsey Downs on a clearly marked and marshalled route, but with enough mud to keep everyone happy. The Gully formed a bit of a bottleneck on the first time around with runners not wanting to get wet and muddy, but by the second time around it was too late. A sprint finish across the sports pitch to be greeted by Steve on the finish line and Pewsey Vale runners already tucking into cake and bacon was very welcome.
Course records were broken by both male and female runners and PB’s by Pewsey Vale Club members as well
